Science Fair 2017 https://napcol.bluechiptt.com/science-fair-2017/ https://napcol.bluechiptt.com/science-fair-2017/#respond Thu, 09 Mar 2017 12:24:32 +0000 https://raratheme.com/preview/education-zone/?p=294 School Supervisor III of the Victoria Educational District, Zorisha Mohammed-Ali, described the Science Fair in one word. AWESOME!! She was very impressed with what a school can do to encourage students’ attendance, student learning and student participation during the same week Carnival was held, while most schools in the twin island Republic were victims of poor student turnout.

Naparima College held its 9th Annual Science Fair in the School’s auditorium on Thursday 2nd March, 2017. This year’s theme was: ‘Integration of the Sciences’. The focus of the fair was based on today’s education system moving towards an integrated approach, especially of the sciences with other subject areas. Each form level highlighted science in different areas of studies:

Form 1: Art, Music & Drama in Science

Form 2: History of Science (Inventions, Robotics)

Form 3: Geography in Science (Recycling, Energy conservation)

Form 4: Languages in science (Inventions by Spanish and French Inventors)

Form 5: IT in science (generation of computers; programme)

The fair was a tremendous success. The models and displays were of a high standard. The students showed off their skills in working together to display a sound understanding of their science knowledge in the practical forum. It was very well attended by students.

We look forward to next year’s fair.

Sir Trevor Mc. Donald – Naps Man & World Class Journalist https://napcol.bluechiptt.com/sir-trevor-mc-donald-naps-man-world-class-journalist/ Fri, 09 Dec 2016 12:07:56 +0000 https://raratheme.com/preview/numinous/?p=188 Sir Trevor McDonald became ITN’s first black reporter in 1973 and went on to win more awards than any other British broadcaster. McDonald was knighted in 1999 for his services to journalism- this is the highest civilian award in the United Kingdom.

He was born in Claxton Bay, Trinidad, where his father Lawson worked in a nearby oil refinery and raised pigs.

The eldest of four children, Sir Trevor once recalled: “We lived in a terribly small house with cracks in the walls, which we used to paper over with newspaper.”

He was educated at Trinidad’s elite Naparima College, where he was a founding member of the school’s Blue Circle Network- a weekly radio programme that kept students abreast of current events. At ‘Naps’ he read widely and won public speaking contests, partly thanks to listening to BBC World Service Radio.

Sir Trevor began his career in Trinidad in 1962, working in various branches of the media including local newspapers, radio and television.

He joined the World Service’s Caribbean section as a producer before relocating to London in 1969 to work for BBC Radio.

Moving to Independent Television News (ITN) in 1973, Sir Trevor rose steadily through the ranks. He served as a news, sports and diplomatic correspondent before becoming a diplomatic editor and newsreader.

By this time Sir Trevor was popular enough to be parodied on ITV children’s programme Tiswas by comedian Lenny Henry, who wore giant glasses, read spoof bulletins and called himself Trevor McDoughnut.

Sir Trevor also became known for quipping “and finally” before reporting a light-hearted story at the end of each bulletin.

He has interviewed such prominent world figures as former US President Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Saddam Hussein and is yet to interview President Donald Trump.
